Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

We are a family of 4 in FL and wanted to move to GA. We found a home for rent and even signed a lease couple of days ago. However, due to some personal reasons and family issues, we have decided not to move. The move-in date is next 2 weeks but we have not paid any security deposit or first month's rent. So we have not moved in and or even collected the keys. We have been told by someone that is a breach of contract and that they are likely going to say it's a legal matter and ask us to pay penalty charges. I wanted to seek a legal opinion in this matter as to whether this is really going to affect us, especially since we have just signed the lease but not yet moved in or paid any money.

The signed lease controls. It would need to be reviewed. Impossible to assist without seeing the lease.

A contract is a contract is a contract. Look at the termination provisions. You are probably on the wrong side of thise issue. Call, "make nice" and cut your best deal. Since you are in Florida, they may not have the inclination to "chase you" if it is quickly re-rented -- but you may need to cough up a month's rent.
