Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My family just moved into a new apartment and when have two dogs the owners said that pets were aloud In the house and neighborhood, 7 days after we got everything moved in we got a note from the community's lawer on the door that said renters were not aloud to have dogs and we had 7 days to get them out of the house or they would have them removed, we took more than 7 days to find them a place to stay and now they are suing the owners who we are rent from for $1,500, I was just wondering if they can do that because technically it should be up to the owners of the house if dogs should be aloud since owners can have pets.

Seek some legal advice with all your paperwork. The homeowner's association rules would apply and they can be different for owners then they are for renters.

It is somewhat common for condos to allow owners to have pets, but not tenants. However, in order to enforce such a rule, it must be part of the condo's bylaws or regulations. They cannot enforce the rule arbitrarily...do you know if any other tenants have pets in the building?
