Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Myself and two friends live in a house owned by my parents, we rent it from them. There is no legal contract, we just pay them a monthly amount. The utilities are in their name, but we pay the bill as it comes in. I am considering purchasing a firearm purely for recreational purposes. However, I am concerned how my parents would be held liable if something were to happen. You hear stories of guns discharging by mistake and people getting hurt, or worse... Who would be help responsible, the gun owner, the property owner, or both?
