Holding Fee Agreement

I gave a check for $800.00 as a holding fee for a rental house while my credit is being checked. I have now changed my mind and don't want the house. Can they keep the money and can I just stop payment on the check?

It depends on what the agreement was with respect to the deposit cjeck. If it was nonrefundable, then you should not stop payment, that would be improper.
