Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Hurricane damage

My apartment building has not made any effort to fix or come investigate my apt since the hurricanes. Mold is growing in my closet, water is still leaking in the spare bedroom with a nasty odor coming out of the door. My living room popcorn ceiling is falling because of the moisture and now everytime it rains my front door leaks in. My bathroom sinks door has rottened off because of the water damage as well.I have expressed to them on many occasions about these problems. I was first told I was ''not a priority'' even though I was getting very ill from the mold in my bedroom. Half of my clothes and furniture are ruined because of their neglect to fix my apt this long. I cannot move because i cant afford another down payment. I dont feel its fair that my personal items are being ruined because they are neglecting to help me...is there anything I can do legally? I have even went as far as showing them pictures with mold and no one can help me. The only time they came in here was after the first hurricane...it was supposedly the roofers, who by the way left my door open for everyone to enter, while locking my animals in a room for eight hours..nothing was even fixed and no one could tell me who entered my home...please help.

Re: Hurricane damage

Florida Statute 83 (residential) covers this issue. Provide your landlord with a written list of repairs to be made. Hand deliver or send certified mail. Failure to repair in 7 days is a defense to payment of rent (FS 83.60). Good luck.
