Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
On January 24 of this ear our apt flooded from our toilet along with our neighbors apt. It took maintenance over two hours to come to our apt to stop the water. A different company had to come to drain the water from our apt. On march 9 when we went to sign a moving out form our apartment gave us the bill for the flood that happened back in january of this year. A week later we got a notice on our door saying we had 24 hours to pay the 1480 dollar damage and legal fees when they said we had a month to pay. An they won't let us talk to the property director they said we have 3 months to pay. We want to know if it really is our responsibility to pay the 1480.

What caused the toilet to flood? Usually your lease will address issues as to plumbing, a/c etc. Check your lease - see what it says. You may not be responsible for the damage as they called their maintenace people to correct the problem.
