Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
landlord doesn't want children to visit 2 nights a month
my children come to visit 2 nights a month and the landlord is trying to tell us we can not have them over. Isn't this a violation of our rights under the Fair Housing Act?
Also is it against any laws for her to open our mailbox and look at our mail?

You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
The landlord has no right to open your mailbox and look at your mail. It is a violation of federal laws. You can file a complaint with the postal inspector's office and they should investigate. The landlord does have the right to limit the number of people living in your apartment, however, I do not think it is reasonable to say that you cannot have visitors. This is not covered under the Fair Housing Act.
