Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
My landlord deposited a check that was sent to me, I did not give it to them or sign it over to them. It was only a $40.00 bank check from my ex husband. He called his bank to stop the check. You can see on the check it is made out to me with my apartment number. Mind you I already paid my rent, so I didn't owe them anything. Today, I came home to find a letter stating that they will not take a check from me and now I owe them 40.00 plus 100.00 check return fee. What are my options with this matter.

contract the state attorneys office and show them the check that they deposited. Any go by their office and find out who and why did they cash a check that belonged to you and why they believe you owe the funds since you were not late and did not owe them any money.
