Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
My landlord told me at the end of my 12 month lease that he needed to move into my house because his other house had sold. I had 30 days to move. After three weeks he told me to hold off signing a new lease for another house because he might not need me to move after all. On Monday ( week 4) he came back and said that I needed to be out by the weekend. At this time, I have lost out on the other house because I did not sign the lease based of what the current landlord said. Does he owe me more time because he had me change my plans or will he evict me? How do I make sure I get my security deposit back?

Is your 12 month lease up. If not, he will have to give you notice per your lease. If this is not addressed in the lease, then he will need to evict you at which point you will have the opportunity to tell the judge what happened.
I'm sorry to hear this. If your lease was expired and you just "held off" based on the chance that you might be able to stay, then I think you took the risk that it might not work out. The procedure under Florida law for the security deposit is available in the Florida statutes and at this site: http://www.800helpfla.com/landlord_text.html. Regards,
