if my lease is expired could i be responsible for damage caused to the house?

Yes. If you damaged the house you are responsible whether there is a lease or not.
I'm not clear on what you mean. I can guess and assume, but that's not the best way to get or give advice.
Do you mean you live in a place, the lease expired but you continue to live there (as a month-to-month tenant?), and now there is damage to the house? Or do you mean you vacated the premises, but the landlord did not take back possession, and there is damage done in the interim? Who caused the damage? What is the nature of the damage?

If you are now month to month (no lease but you live htere and pay monthly), then you are still a tenant and you are responsible for any damages.
