How could they possible get the money order? Did you deliver it to them in error? Was the envelope misaddressed or did they break into your mailbox? The actual facts will be important in answering this question.

If they somehow took the check from your mailbox, then federal laws have been violated and you can file a complaint with the postal inspectors who will certainly investigate it. Tampering with the mail is a criminal violation and is not taken lightly.

If you erred in addressing the envelope, then the chance of pursuing any action is limited. You should consult and attorney and discuss your legal rights and obligations.
