Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Moved into apartment complex in August. I was 8mos pregnant. Sent in maintenance report of mold in apt, they came, sprayed some chemicals and bleach and left it. Had my daughter in Sept. Continued to have mold problem. Finally they found not only mold, but also wood ants, and termites in the unit causing it to be unsafe. Therefore they allowed us either move to another unit or to move out and promised our full deposit back for the issues. We found another home and moved out. They checked the unit the day we left and signed off stating the unit was in immaculate condition. However, when we received the check for our deposit it was only half.. we asked why? They said "That's just how we do.." Is there any way I can go about getting the rest of my deposit back. I have yet to cash the check but it expires soon so I need answers.. After we moved they removed all other units above ours as well due to the same issues. We just want what we were promised..

Assuming you have some support for their agreement to allow you to leave early, you can sue for the return of your security deposit. You are entitled to attorney's fees in a successful suit for recovery of the deposit. Seek some legal guidance with all your paperwork.
