Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
I moved out of duplex at expiratiion so lease after giving the appropriate notice that I was moving. After cleaning the unit I called landlord to meet for a walk through and return keys. She seemed very pleased with the clean condition of unit and said she never does this but wrote me a check in the amount of the security deposit and thanked me for cleaning. an hour later she texted my phone and said not to cash check, she was going to stop payment as she felt there was a dog odor that needed addressed. what is my recourse at this point, I attempted to cash the check and she had stopped payment. I feel by returning deposit via check she and I were therefore released from any further business.

I hope you still have the check. let her know that writing a check and stopping payment is considered a felony and you intend to turn it over to the state attorneys office is she doesn't make good on it.
