Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

The owner of the vacation home we rented cancelled us about one hour before our arrival. She said there were septic field issues and no one was allowed to stay there. Traveling with a pet made it difficult to find other lodging. She refunded my money two days later. We drove by the house and saw people the pool and were told by the owner they were hired to let the workers in. Drove by a few more times saw a different car there, never any work in the septic field, asked her for the name of the company doing the work or an estimate so I could believe her story, never received a response. This happened in Florida and the reservation was for three nights. I feel she had a more lucrative opportunity and cancelled us. Do I have any recourse? Thanks, Art

You can sue for the expenses it cost you outside of the deposit and rental amount. You suffered no damages as you were able to locate other lodging. I would report this on the list that you used to find her listing for vaca rentals and any other review that she has used. Outside of being frustrated, don't spend good money after bad. Sorry for the deceptive way this was done.

Your contract prevails. It needs to be reviewed. You don't get consequential damages or pain and suffering etc.
