Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I've been paying my rent to the landlord's grandson, now an attorney has sent me a letter saying I have to pay him instead. Should I get some documentation prior to paying the attorney to make sure it's on some sort of record? and should I pay in cash like they've been asking all this time, or can I use a cashier's check instead?

It depends on what the letter from the attorney said, but generally when a lawyer says that he's representing someone, he is. The letter is your documentation, but you do whatever you need to do to feel comfortable. Do not pay in cash. Pay him with a cashier's check. It's safer and I assure you the lawyer will appreciate a check rather than cash.

I would get some documentation that you are paying the proper party. the attorney letter alone may not be enough. I would ask for the landlord to sign something directing the payment. You can use a cashier's check but that is an extra burden on you. Why not ask for clarification of the form of payment when asking for the letter with directions.
