Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Hello. There may be a potential legal issue with my Landlord. I live in a 6 Apartment unit complex. Since my residence which was a year ago, there were 3 other tenants that were there before me, all paying $650 a month. When I signed a lease last year, my rent was $750.00. Now my lease is month to month and I just got notice that rent is increasing to $850.00 per month. Tenant number 1 who was paying $650 got bumped up to $850. He moved out because he couldn't afford that and someone moved in paying $850.00 month to month. The next tenant before me in apt. 6 got bumped up to $750.00 and is month to month. The 3rd tenant before me is either still at $650 or may have gotten bumped to $750.00. The 3 remaining tenants after me all pay $850. 2 are month to month and the 3rd is leased for 1 year. This all sounds sketchy and my question is, can he be violating the Fair Housing Act with some on a lease and others on month to month as well as some paying $650.00 versus $850.00. The lease is a simple lease and does not have complex terms. HELP! Thanks.

Unless landlord is renting the units under some Federal statute requirements, he can charge whatever he wants.
