Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Rats in the house

I found a house for rent and after

meeting with the landlord, the lease

was signed and I moved in. Before

signing the lease, I asked the

landlord if there were rats in the

house and he assured me there

weren't. After living there for a

couple days, I woke up in the night

and saw one in my pantry, eating my

food. I called the landlord the next

morning, and he came over that

afternoon and threw poison behind

the fridge and placed some on the

kitchen counter. A couple days later,

my roommate saw 2 on the stove.

So we moved into another place and

haven't spoken to the landlord again.

Can we get our security deposit

back? Can he take us to court? Are

we liable for anything?

Re: Rats in the house

You have no right to simply vacate the house because you see rats. Your security deposit is probably forfeit, and your landlord will be able to sue you for lost rent.
