Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Removal of unwanted house guests / not renting

My Grandma lives in a house that legally belongs to my parents. She agreed to let my uncle & his family stay with her for one night until their rental house was ready. The rental house fell through so she said they could stay a little longer to find a new place. They have been there for four months. My Grandma and parents have asked them to leave numerous times and given them deadlines to be out by but they aren't leaving. They have taken over the whole house and the kids have broken numerous things. My Grandma even had to put a refigerater in her room and put a lock on her bedroom door so they wouldn't eat all of her food and get into her belongings.

My parents want to force them to move. How do they do this? Do they have to follow landlord/tenant laws since they only came in as guests or can they just give a written notice for them to leave?

They aren't paying rent. None of their furniture etc. has been moved in (only personal belongings).

Thank You

Re: Removal of unwanted house guests / not renting

Since there is no self-help in Florida your parents would have to legally remove them. Ejectment is the means by which a person unlawfully in possession of real property is removed. If you have further questions please feel free to give me a call or drop me an email
