if my rent was stolen from my apartment's office drop box, am i still responsible?

yes. surely you did not pay in cash and therefore you can track the money order or cancel the check.

If the office drop box is an acceptable location for rent to be paid AND you paid in some form that cannot be cancelled, you may have an argument that the loss is the landlord's and not yours. More facts are needed.
