Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

i am a renter and i move around the world with the u.s. military. i rented an apt in miami fl, the agreement was for 1 year. half way threw my contract my friend moved into this apartment with me we filled out a new agreement with his name on it. i thought this agreement was just to add his name on the lease for legal purposes. i would later find out the dates of the lease had been changed to reflect the start of a new year long contract. after i fulfilled my original contract i wanted to move only to find out i was in a contract until jan 2010. i moved any way. the land lord said he would work with me. after two months he still has not found any one to live at the apt and would like me to continue payment on the unit. he is also holding $2500 for security and cleaning... i have turned in all keys, left the apt in good condition and i was paid up on my rent when i moved out... help!!!

What help do you want? You signed a contract which you didn't read. Unless you were transferred for military reasons outside the area, which would allow an "out" to the lease, you have to pay rent until the landlord can find a new tenant.
