Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Renter's rights
We had a small fire in our leased apartment. Instead of just repairing the one room the landlord is remodeling much of the apartment. We have been living in a hotel for two months because of this and have been told that it will be at least another six week until the apartment is finished.
Can we break the lease and get our deposit back so we can find another home?

Re: Renter's rights
Depends on language contained in your lease. Some leases provide for landlord to make repairs within a certain period of time. If your lease contains such language, and Landlord is in breach, then you may be able to break lease. As far as getting the deposit back, I assume this would depend on what caused the fire??
You should meet with a local attorney who handles landlord/tenant matters to review your lease and advise you of your rights.
