Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Hello, I am currently renting a condo from a private owner. However, the owner has hired a property management company. So that is who I deal with. Some repairs needed to be done in the condo. Due to the fact that I work late, the maintenance guy asked if he could use their key to access the residence. That is when he mentioned the office does not have a spare key. Last week was the first time I was told by the maintenance guy that the management company does not have a spare key. I have been living there since 2013. But the condo was sold after I moved in so the new owner does not have a copy. Originally, I told him that I will make a copy and provide it to them. Honestly, I did not feel comfortable providing it to him but I said I was going to mail it to the office. I received a pretty unpleasant email from office on Friday, stating they have tried repeatedly to get a copy from me. Originally I was going to mail it. Due to the tone of the email, I replied back that It was not my fault that the new owner does not have a copy of it, and someone needed to come to my house to pick up the key. I have dealt about 3 times with the maintenance guy but I have only had 1 conversation with him in regards to the key. They are claiming that all 3 times he told me they needed the key. Which is not true. The management company has only contacted me once in regards to that. Based on my lease agreement, I am obligated to provide a copy of the key if the locks have been changed, in which case they have not. If they claim that I am not willing to provide the key or they are unable to obtain it. What is the worse case scenario? Can they take any legal action against me

they could potentially terminate your lease. why are you wasting time with this. just send the key to the owner and let him deal with them.
