Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

It states in my lease that the landlord will maintain the a/c in the apartment. three weeks after i moved in it stopped working correctly. it doesn't cool properly. i had teco the electric company come out an do an energy audit in my apartment and they indicated on the audit that the a./c need servicing, i gave a copy of the audit to the apartment manager and they are still doing nothing. i have been reporting this problem to them for 16 months now and are not making the repairs. i do know what else i can do. can someone help me with this problem? my electric bill for last month is $353.00. i can't afford to move because i am on permanent disability, and receiving s.s.d.i. does anybody know what my rights are as a renter?

If you are on disability you should qualify for free legal help - call Jacksonville Area Legal Aid - Duval County number is 904-356-8371. File a suit against them and request for a refund of payments over the normal amount had the a/c been corrected when you first brought this to their attention. By staying and saying you can't leave etc. you are only enabling them to take advantage of you. I would think if your electric bill was 100.00 a month you could well afford to leave
