Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Terrified college student!
Hi! I live in an off campus dorm outside a college in central FL. Every Wednesday ''housekeeping'' comes and cleans out my trash cans and vacuums my carpet. Last Wednesday, housekeeping stole a ring from my room. I reported the theft to the building, and the police, and am pressing charges against the housekeeper(s), who have of course denied all accusations. I told the management that I don't want housekeeping in my room anymore, (they told me to put a note on my door) and that I'll be responsible for the upkeep of my room; but in actuality, there is nothing keeping housekeeping from entering my room anytime and taking revenge for the potential consequences of being charged with grand theft. I am afraid to leave my room, be in my room, and to leave anything of value in my room (tv, game consoles, personal documents, computer, jewelry, etc...) I want to break my lease and move to another location without being penalized for the staff robbing me. Is this possible?

Re: Terrified college student!
it depends on the terms of your lease agreement. It may be possible to move to other campus housing. Check with your college's housing department for your options. Many times campus housing situations are different that the typical landlord-tenant relationship.
