Copying Music CD's - Copyright info

I was under the impression that it was legal to copy music CD--name removed--onto a CD burner. I assumed because writeable CD--name removed--and burners are available. If I am wrong please tell me how to do this the legal way. Usually this is for my work but sometimes only for recreational purposes.

it should not be a problem if you own the CD and the copy is for your use.
