Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Florida

fired due to illness

I've been employed for this company here in florida for a little over 8 months. All the while performance has been excellent with an exception in the amount of call volume which was presented and corrected almost immediatley. Fast forward a couple months I get diagnosed with diverticullitis, not a very uncommon illness, except for the fact im only 23, this has taken both a mental and obvious physical impact on my life as for the last 3 days i've been on a clear fluid diet. well i wake up this morning to a call from my boss telling me i was ''let go'' because of my performance, the only thing i can think of that would make him say this is termination due to serious illness must be a legal issue of sorts, mind you the entire process has been well documented and i did provide notification from the doctor on several occasions, any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re: fired due to illness

Florida is not a worker friendly state. The Republicans control the Legislature and have for some time. We are an "at will" state, which means that they can fire you for most any reason. It is possible that there is an ADA issue, but it really does not sound like it. If your illness made it impossible to do you job and was not work related (both of which sound remote) then there are certain rights and restrictions. To me it sounds like you are out of luck.
