Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Florida
I was hit with a slander/defamation "fake" law suit last night from a resort that I was considering having my wedding with. When I went to visit them, they gave me a 30 day contract, which stated that my final payment was not due until 30 days prior to the wedding. However, when I started asking some money related questions, they told me they needed to amend the original contract. When I received the new contract, they had pushed my final payment date to 5 months before the wedding and they originally said I would not be liable for any rooms that did not get filled as they would call me 30 days prior to my wedding and release them to the public. Now, they want to make me pay for any unoccupied rooms. When I asked if we could meet and discuss the new contract, they dropped our wedding after all the time and effort we had already put into it. So I posted everything that transpired between us on Tripadvisory.com and went to the BBB and filed a complaint. If you look on Tripadvisory.com, they have similar complains as mine. I did not lie in anything that I wrote. Everything I said is all true. My question to you is what do I do now? They are demanding $30,000 in damages by April 1st. I don't have that kind of money and obviously this would force me to move my wedding to either 1 or 2 years down the line. The documents they sent me via e-mail were fake legal documents. Is there any way I can counter sue them? What should we do at this point? I have taken down the comments on Tripadvisory.com even though I stand by them. I have a copy of my comments and my comments to the BBB as well. Please let me know what we can do.

You can't be sued via email. However, if the emailed documents are a warning that they plan on filing suit, it wouldn't hurt for you to pay an attorney to review them. Maybe the dispute can be settled amicably before it goes any further.
