money and ex boyfriend
we were planning on marrying -- he borrowed a lot of money to pay off creditors. We split up, he won't pay me back, not even half. anything I can do? It was not a small sum.
Have asked and written, refuses, says I gave it to him. have cleared checks.

You can sue him, but it's tough to prove it's a loan when the other person says it's a gift, especially when the parties intend to marry. As a general rule, judges assume that, where there is no written contract, the money is a gift.
