Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida

I checked my credit report earlier today and noticed I had a debt sent to collections from a doctors office that no longer exists because the physician is in federal prison for tax fraud. I was never notified that this debt existed or was being sent to collections in the first place. It is dated as February 2013. Is there a way to have this debt absolved?

You could notify the credit reporting agencies that you dispute the debt. They will then contact the creditor to obtain verification of the debt. If no verification is provided, they may remove it from your credit report.

You may also want to consider filing for bankruptcy. That would probably wipe out this debt and any other medical bill or credit card bill that you have. Depending on your overall situation, this may be a very good option for you. Our office handles a lot of bankruptcy cases, and we'd be happy to discuss your situation with you. The consultation is free an dthere's no obligation to us.

I agree with the above answer. I just wanted to add that this isn't technically medical malpractice. Also, another option, if the creditor isn't calling you, is just to wait for the statute of limitations to expire. The collections company may never sue you. Or you could declare bankruptcy as mentioned.
