Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida
I was at the Doctor's office this morning, I go every month for pain meds and a check-up. My wife provides the insurance through her work and has family coverage for myself (her husband) and our young son. When I arrived at the Doctor's I had a balance of a couple hundred dollars to pay plus the co-pay. I gave them a credt card and the worker pu the card through the wrong and they had to issue me a credit and recharge me. At that point my card was denied. I told them I didn't have any other credit cards and I would have to speak to my wife and take care of it. After giving me a little attitude she said fine. When I came out of my office vist I leanred the receptionist had called my wife to either secure payment or aske her about payment without consulting me first. Is it legal for a receptionist to call my wife when I didn't give her permission? What if I hadn't wanted my wife to know I was going to the doctor. I mean my wife knew full well...but it just doesn't seem ethical??? And I am really upset with this woman for going behind my back when I told her I would take care of it.

Unfortunately, this is a customer service issue and not a medical malpractice issue. You advised her that your wife handles the monetary issues and she contacted your wife. Was it right for her to do so, maybe, maybe not - depending on the conversation and several factors I was not present to witness. However, I do not think there is any legal action you can take.
