Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida

Is it inappropriately of me to write a letter to a veterinarian who misdiagnosed my pet causing me to spend more money at 2 additional vets? I would like to ask for some of my payment returned.

Thank you.

it is no inappropriate. The problem is that you conclude that his misdiagnosis caused you to incur the additional costs, you would need expert support for that conclusion if you were take the matter further than your letter writing.

I agree. You can ask. Your vet might decline even if he or she really should pay. I just wanted to add that human beings involved in possible med mal or injury cases should never write letters on their own behalf, unless they have tried every attorney in the phone book, and can't find one to take their case. The reason is that you can hurt your legal case very easily without realizing it, when communicating with a defendant without an attorney. In this particular case, however, I would guess you will not be able to find an attorney to take your case. I love my pets almost as much as my other family members, so I say this with regret. But unfortunately the law does not place a high value on most pets. The only possible value from an animal would be something like a prize winning horse or something. Even then -- finding a lawyer would not be easy. The good news is your vet may not know this information, so might send you some kind of payment. Good luck to you.
