Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida

A law question of a doctor

DOES A DOCTOR HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THE WIFE OR HUSBAND CAN'T COME IN THE EXAMINIG ROOM.? MY HUSBAND IS SENILE AND DEAF AND THE DOCTOR SAYS HE HAS NEW LAWS HE CAN'T LET ANYONE IN THE ROOM WITH THE PATIENT. I READ IN A LEGAL SECTION SOMEWHERE BUT CAN'T FIND IT THAT SOMEONE SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN THE ROOM WITH DOCTOR AND PATIENT. IN THIS CASE IT WAS MENTALLY AND PHYSICAL CRUEL. MY HUSBAND CAN'T THINK OR HEAR.

THANK YOU AND WOULD APPRECIATE A ANSWER.

Re: A law question of a doctor

The doctor's apparent reference is to the federal HIPPA laws, but your husband can sign a simple document to allow you into the room with him. If the doctor will not allow that, I would find another doctor right away.
