Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida
Never told I had cancer
I had my thyroid removed in 2000 in MD. When pathology came back, I was told there were pre-cancerous cells found and all was well. I moved back to FL in 2001. Every year since returning to FL, the hospital in MD has sent me a letter wanting to check on me and follow up with my current endocrinologist. I thought ''what great customer service'', but never completed the form as I no longer lived in that state, etc. I finally completed the form this year figuring it would stop them from coming. Prior to my last doc appt, I had to call the nurse to request a new lab req. When she called me back she informed me she had received a letter from the hospital in MD. She then asked if I had ever been told I had cancer. I told her that I was told they found pre-cancerous cells and that was it. I called the hospital and requested my surgical pathology report per her request. According to the report/nurse, they found papillary cancer present yet I was never told. Had my current endocrinologist known, they would have been doing some extra screenings on an annual basis to make sure it had not returned as I still have my parathyroid glands. Fortunately, my latest lab results were fine. Do I have any legal recourse? Harm to my future insurability?
