Legal Question in Military Law in Florida

Dating a military man

My 16 year old daughter is having a phone relationship with a 19 year old military man. Of course they say it is love. Does the military allow this type of behavior. Isn't she consider a minor? Thank you in advance for your help.

1. In the military, once the person reaches their sixteenth birthday it is not criminal to have sexual intercourse.

2. Check your state law, in some states it is still legal to get married as low a thirteen years old -- with parental consent of course.

3. That being said some discussion and counseling does seem to be in order. At their ages a five year age difference can be important.

A phone relationship could just remain that. Nothing more, but I suspect you feel more is in the works. You don't say what the behavior is? Certainly the military does not discourage phone calls unless the receipient of the call protests.

Time for a family pow-wow.
