Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

auto accident

A cab driver ran a stop sign and i hit him, he was cited to be at fault. His insurance co. already settled with me for prop. dam. I recieved extensive injury in the accident and am waiting on a settlement. How can i find out how much insurance the driver carries. I was told by his insurance that the max was 100K. I have been told by others that a cab company should carry much more. What is the time limit i have to file a claim through a lawyer to seek compensation for this accident. The drivers insurance co. says 4 years, others have told me only 1 year. The 1 year anniversary of the accident will be in a few weeks, is it okay to continue to wait on the insurance co. to finish their offer for settlement ( they have indicated that i am entitled to compensation and that they will make an offer) or are they stringing me along to push me past a 1 year deadline.

Re: auto accident

1. Florida statutes require the insurance carrier to disclose policy limits upon writen demand. It should not be difficult to get that information.

2. There is a general 4 year statute of limitations that apply to claims against a person who negligently strikes someone else.

3. As far as the amount of the policy limits, I am unaware of any statute regulating the amount of liability insurance a taxi has to carry.
