Car Incident Left for 4 Days

Last Friday (9/5) my daughter accidentally opened her door into another car at school. The girl sitting in the car did not get out so my daughter inspected the car and did not see any damage. She motioned through the glass that she did not see anything and left.

A few hours later, I got a message on my home phone from the school's resource officer informing me about an incident and asked for me to call him back on Tuesday (Monday was a teacher's work day). He did not give me a cell phone number, an alternate after hour number, or any number for the other girl. The girl apparently had left campus, gone home, and returned back to school with her mother a couple of hours later to file a complaint.

Today (9/8), I went to the school to inspect the damage for myself. There were 2 horizontal marks on the car with a bit of red paint inside of them (the color of my daughter's car). One was 1/2'' in length and the other was 1/4'' long. I set up an appointment with the resource officer and the other parent to figure this out and I was just wondering what my legal rights are with this situation. Since it had been left for 4 days with out myself or my insurance being contact, am I still liable for the damage? If so, do I have the option to j

Looks like there was some damage. Probably not worth reporting it to the insurance company. Go meet with the parents and work it out.
