Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida
Change Attorney
I was injured in a car accident in which the driver of the car that struck me took responisibilty.
Just before the Global Settlement Conference, I signed on with a local attorney, on a contingency basis.
He accompanied me to the Global Settlement Conference and we accepted, and split the money offered.
Since then he has not represented me to my satisfaction, for the Underinsured Motorist portion of the case. And, a year-and-a-half later, he has not got my insurance company to offer any more than they did to begin with.
I want to discharge the attorney and seek representation from another attorney.
How do we determine how much I own the current attorney? And what is the least stressful procedure to follow to discharge the current attorney and secure the services of another, more interested/more competent attorney?

That issue will be handled by your new attorney. You only pay once.

Call to discuss this situation. I would assume that you have a signed contract for services with that lawyer????

Sounds like the first lawyer is not very interested in actually working on the second part of your claim. Sorry that you feel left out in the dark by your lawyer...not a good feeling.
Please give me a call or email me and we'll talk about your options. This is not a stressful procedure at all. In fact, I, as your second lawyer, would deal with the first lawyer so that you need not involve yourself in that transition. It would not cost you any more money to switch lawyers.
