child was in accident so retained an attorney

the child was a minor at time of accident, has sinced turned 18 yrs ol d. we,the parents, signed the contract on behalf of the child. the attorney we retained says a new contract has to be signed by her as the responsible party. but we have also been assigned a new attorney as if the firm split up. Is it necessary for a new contract to be signed at this time?

Yes, a new contract must be signed, but she does not have to stay with the new attorney if she doesn't want to. You should have been given an option as to who you wanted the file to stay with when the firm split up. If you want it to go back to the other attorney you should notify them before exectuing anything.

Yes, you need (or, more accurately, your daughter needs a new contract. She does not, however, have to sign anything that is put in front of her. Ask your lawyer who is handling and who will handle the case. If there has been a change, ask why. If you can't get answers that you deserve, start looking for another lawyer.
