Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

Can I collect from more than one insurance company.

I was Involved in an auto accident on 9/19/98. I was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck. My brother was driving the vehicle that was struck, which is his vehicle. My insurance company paid $10,000 out to me, even though my vehicle was not involved. The person that hit us isurance company also paid. People are now telling me that my brother's insurance company should of paid me also, since it was his vehicle involved in the accident, and I was injured.
