If i fired my first lawyer..does my second lawyer split the fees?

That will be worked out by the attorneys. If they cannot agree, a court will decide. You only pay one fee.

The first lawyer will be entitle to recover their costs and any fee earned before the termination. For example, in a contingency fee case the first lawyer would be entitled to a percentage of any offer s/he received for you before the termination (plus costs).

The first lawyer in a contingency case is entitled to quantum meruit or the value of the services provided. This will occur at the time the contingency is met. NO they don't have to split the fees, unless they both agree to that occurring. you could be responsible for fees in excess of the contingency if both are added up. If you have an hourly case, each attorney would get the fees they are due. You need to provide more facts for a more complete response.
