Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your accident. You may have a claim agains the owner of the apartment complex or other parties responsible for maintaining the area where you fell. However, that depends on what caused you to fall, and you have not included enough details about what happened for an attorney to make any conclusion in this regard. The good news is that the apartment complex probably has insurance that includes coverage for some of your medical bills, regardless of who was at fault. So, you have to make a claim to the insurance and it may pay some of your medical bills. You really should consult with an attorney who is skilled in this area right away. In particular, you probably want to speak to an attorney who is board certified in civil trial law, as I am. We offer a free initial consultation and would be happy to speak to you about the situation.
Re: law suit
Yes, if a defective condition on the staircase caused you to fall. For example, a defective condition includes the presence of cracks on the staircase or an accumulation of water. also, even if you cannot prove that a defective condition existed at the time you fell, you may still be eligible to have some of your medical bills paid for by the apartment building's liability insurance. however , for this benefit , you have to apply within one year of the date you fell. please contact me with any more questions you have. best wishes.

No. Perhaps the apartment complex -- but it would depend on how you fell and why you fell (and whether and to the extent that you were drinking).
