Do night club bouncers have the right to use excessive force?

My girlfriend and I were at a nightclub last weekend. When my girlfriend comes out of the bathroom, she is stopped by a bouncer and is told to leave. I approached the bouncer and asked why she was getting kicked out. Before he could respond another bouncer came up to me, in my face scremaing, and said ''because we said so. What are you going to do about it'' he than said if you have a problem you can go also. I told him that I didn't have a problem leaving I just wanted to know what happened. He than grabed me and put me in a choke hold, took 2 steps and triped me, slaming me on the floor face first. 2 other bouncers rushed over garbing me and telling me to put my hand behind me, which I did. I kept on telling them that I wasn't resisting. They kept forcing and scraping my head on the carpet. Then they finally let me up. With my hands behind my back they started pushing me outside. Once we were outside he triped me and once again I fell face first but this time it was concrete. There were police outside that saw them throw me to the concrete. I asked a police officer if there was anything that I could do and his comment was ''you're in their house''.Is there something that I can do about this? Is this legal?

Re: Do night club bouncers have the right to use excessive force?

No. They cannot use excessive force. They also must be properly trained and background searches should be done prior to hiring. Most night club liability insurance policies have an assault and battery exclusion and therefore no coverage is afforded. It is usually not cost effective to file suit unless the damages are permanent and severe.
