Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

permanent disability from fall

I was helping a friend on a job and fell as I was stepping from scaffolding to a ladder. I sustained a fractured tibia and had surgery. After the surgery I developed a condition called RSD and have been unable to work since. I have had numerous nerve blocks (12) and on very powerful medication that have side effects that add to it.

My friend is a general contractor and he did not have workmans comp or liability insurance. I was not an hired as an employee but did receive compensation for my help. He has told numeroud people that he was responsible and he would have stopped it from happening if he wasn't around the corner when it took place.

What are my options since he is uninsured? Is it possible to sue the homeowner? Is it considered negligence to hire a uninsured contractor?

I appreciate any advice to help?

Re: permanent disability from fall

You probably could file a lawsuit against your friend. There may be additional claims against the property owner or the manufacturer of some equipment, but those are less likely, and it's impossible to tell without more details. You should consult with an attorney who has experience in this area. We have handled cases like this before and would be happy to speak with you about it. We offer a free initial consultation.
