Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida
I have a question. My friend has had an ongoing case in Florida. She received a letter from the attorney stating that they the "first back-up case" for a particular time frame. What on earth does that mean? They've been waiting for a trial date for years, and this is what they were given. The attorney isn't much help, I don't believe anything that they say at this point.

Trial dates get rescheduled or moved forward for many different reasons including the calenders of the attorneys and the judge, the discovery of additional evidence and/or the need to obtain additional evidence for trial. In order to understand what "first back-up case" means in the context of your friend's case and what needs to be done to push the case forward through trial, you would need to have an attorney review the file and the case docket and advise accordingly.
Your friend should contact her attorney. It is that attorney's responsibility to communicate with the client. If he or she is not helpful or fails to communicate with your friend, your friend may consider hiring another attorney. But, the fact that the trial date has been rescheduled may be completely out of the attorney's control. Regards,
It means you get to try your case after the first one is either settled or tried. Now, this could mean for a particular week or for the trial period. See www.FloridaPersonalInjuryTrialLawyer.com
