Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida
Our son is about to be 18, gone away to college, (New York State). We live in Florida, are we liable for any auto acidents that he may have. Is it advised to have him carry more than the minium auto coverage which is all that he wants to afford

If the vehicle remains in your name then you are more likely to be held responsible for any damages he causes while operating the motor vehicle. Outside the state of Florida I do not know how other states handle this type of liability. However, it is NEVER advisable to carry the minimum coverage on auto insurance, especially if you have any assets that can be recovered following some judgment against you. You must have sufficient insurance coverage to protect your assets and your income.
If you can afford it, you should have liability insurance and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. See if you can get the car insured in the state of NY, and make sure he is an authroizwd driver and has all the coverage outlined above.
