Can I sue my neighbor for spitting on me?

i am a female. my neighbor spit on me outside my home. i am concered for my health now. the police were called out and i was given a case number, and statements were taken from witnesses who seen him do it. can i sue him for damages? please help how and what legal steps i need to take first and then after that?

You may have a civil cause of action based on the assault, but quite frankly, I do not see the money damages that would serve as a sufficient economic basis for any reputable attorney from taking the case at this point, based on the information you have provided in your statement/question. Focus on calling the police each and every time your neighbor breaks the law by harrasing you, assaulting you, etc., and not on whether you will be able to make any serious money because spit landed on you. That being said, I strongly urge you to consult with multiple lawyers --- others may have a different opinion. Good luck.
