Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
action against apartment manager
I rent in an apartment complex and they offer cable services to each tenant. I accepted when I moved in but then decided to add more channels. I called the cable company and they quoted me a price of $18.00 for cable and I am currently paying the apartment complex $30.00 per month for the same thing. I confronted the manager and she told me if I wanted extra channels I would have to pay the cable co. separately but still pay them $30.00 just to have the cable hooked up and then admitted she pays only $18.00 to the cable co. but charges the tenant $30.00. No one else knows about this and she asked me not to say anything to the other tenants. I continued to pay the $30.00 the following month and she is completely ignoring the situation. I have asked for pest control twice and they never send anyone out. They also are supposed to provide intrusion alarm service and they haven't hooked that up yet either. I have been here for three months and pay my rent on time. Is there anything I can do for the lack of service they provide and the fact that they are ripping everyone off with the cable agreement?? I need an answer!!

Apartment Tenants rights to organize
You need to organize a meeting of all the tenants and inform them of what is happening. You should also contact the local housing authority or code enforcement office and have them inspect your unit as to you other concerns.
You can send a seven day letter and advise of your intention to terminate the lease if not corrected.
What is stopping you from cancelling your cable and getting it directly from the cable co.?
