Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

How to break a joint lease ?

Hi,

I signed a joint lease for 12 months with 2 other students. I started having problems with my other 2 roommates and things have reached a situation where I find it unbearable to live there anymore. I would like to move out from my apartment. But I need to find my roommates a substitute roommate and they keep turning down every roommate I show to them. I feel like I being held like a hostage by my roommates. They constantly keep harrassing me. I am afraid the harrasment will soon become physical. I have also spoken to my landlord about their attitude and the landlord feels that there is nothing that they can do. The landlord is also helping me out in finding a new roommate. But my roommates are very uncooperative. Is there any way I can break the lease and sue my roommates? Please help me out.

If the landlord agrees to release you from the lease, in writing, then you can move out and leave your roommates with the responsibility of searching for and finding a new tenant. If you have a reasonable basis to fear physical violence on the part of your roommates, then consider calling the police. Good luck.
