Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Breaking an apartment lease

Am I stuck to a leasing agreement if my job has moved out of the area? I am being forced to move out of state or be unemployed. It seems unfair to lose the security deposit and pay any leasing termination fees when I am forced to move in order to maintain my job. Is there anyway around this? Thanks.

Re: Breaking an apartment lease

Read your lease. The terms therein govern. But your need to move is not the landlord's fault. So here are your choices as I see it:

(1) Get a new job locally;

(2) Ask for moving expenses from the current employer (which I believe are tax deductible).

(3) If you have a contract with your employer then read your rights thereunder, or if there is an employee manual which discusses your situation then consult it. Good luck,

Randall Gilbert
