Breaking a lease

A tenant is trying to purchase a home and would like to terminate their lease agreement and receive their deposit back. Can a tenant legally break a lease without penalty if they are purchasing a home to be their primary residence?

Atty Finner's reply is accurate. The reason you give in your question is insufficient to 'break' the lease.

A lease is a binding contract between the tenant and the landlord. Unless the contract allows for early termination, both the tenant and the landlord are responsible for their promises to pay rent and provide housing for the entire lease term.
